That’s what he was

A man of true distinction

Let’s take a moment and pause

When we met it was periodic

As busy neighbours tend to do

But those moments were rich in flavour

And provided a special point of view  

Many a conversation of meaning

With the odd digression for a while

He was a study in old time values

With a hearty laugh, a willing smile  

A sense of origin, wore it proud

The Caribbean people, politic and song

He animated its broad diversity

Regaling his version of right and wrong  

A sense of family, always there

Partnered with beauty, wit and grace

This one branch of the family tree

Was started with that sturdy base
